OPIOID CRISIS RESOURCES

Oregon has a drug problem. It has the second highest rate of opioid abuse in the nation. Oregon is 6th among the top 10 states for biggest drug problems. An average of 3 Oregonians die every week from prescription opioid overdose. Many more develop opioid use disorders. Addiction can start with prescription painkillers. This puts patients at risk for addiction and overdose. Opioids are a type of pain medicine. Common opioids are Oxycontin, Vicodin, and Percocet. Heroin is also an opioid drug. Opioid pain pills can cause problems when used for chronic pain. They can lead to physical dependence, addiction, and death from overdose. There isn’t enough evidence to support long-term use of opioids for chronic, non-cancer pain.
